Grand Canyon, Ariz. – A body recovered from below the South Rim on Thursday, February 10 has been identified as that of 64-year old Janice Wotherspoon of St. George, Utah.
On Wednesday, February 9, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a separated party in the vicinity of the Yavapai Geology Museum. Almost an hour later, park rangers spotted a body approximately 600 feet below the rim just east of the Geology Museum. Due to waning light and quickly dropping temperatures, the body was not recovered until Thursday, February 10.
Yesterday, the Coconino County Medical Examiner identified the body as that of the missing woman, Janice Wotherspoon.
The National Park Service is conducting an investigation into the incident.
